Situated near Young, on the South West Slopes of New South Wales, Willayoung Orchard
is in the heart of this renowned cherry-growing district. For many years Young
was the leading cherry-producing area in the Southern Hemisphere. It is not so
well-known that Young’s mix of soils and strong summer conditions makes it an ideal
environment for production of stonefruit. Willayoung consists of over 5,500 trees
on approximately 8 hectares(20 acres). Purchased in 1988 by Andrew and Helen Ricketts
the land was originally bare ground, apart from a residence. After initially operating
as a fruit-tree nursery (with a small number of ‘hobby’ fruit trees) there has been
a transition to full orchard operation. The final stage of this transition was the
establishment of our packing shed in 2002.
